DIY sun catcher with tissue and sequins

Looking for a bright, hands-on art activity that kids will love? These DIY sun catchers are a hit at Messy Art Preschool! Using cardboard frames, sticky contact paper, and loads of colorful textures, this craft is perfect for ages 3+ and offers endless creative possibilities.

What You’ll Need:

  • Recycled cardboard (for frames)

  • Clear contact paper

  • Tissue paper & cellophane

  • Glitter, confetti, sequins

  • Hole punch & yarn or string for hanging

  • Optional: watercolour paints to decorate the frame

How to Make It:

  1. Create Your Frame
Grown ups use a box cutter or scissors to cut out simple frames from cardboard. Any shape works - squares, circles, or even seasonal outlines (like hearts or suns).

  2. Stick the Contact Paper
Tape contact paper to the back of the frame, sticky side facing up! This becomes your "canvas."

Once everything’s stuck, kids can paint their cardboard frames using watercolours to finish off their creations.
