Dream Pool Floaty – A Fun & easy Summer Art Project for Kids
Summer’s here, and what better way to keep kids creatively entertained than designing their very own dream pool floaty? This open ended art project starts with a simple printable drawing prompt and then grows into a super fun 3D cardboard masterpiece. Perfect for kids to imagine, design, and build something unique. Best part? You probably already have everything you need lying around!
What you’ll need:
You can use whatever materials you have lying around, but here’s what we used:
Printable “Design Your Dream Floaty” drawing prompt (grab your freebie here!)
Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
Cardboard (cut into circles or any shape)
Watercolour paints (easy cleanup!)
Oil pastels or crayons
Washi tape
Glue & scissors
Scrap cardboard
Optional: Stickers, glitter, or any fun decorations you have on hand

Dream & Draw
Start by printing the drawing prompt and let your child design their dream pool floaty. Encourage them to think big and wild! Bright colours, fun shapes, and all the sparkles they want!
2. Build in 3D
Once the design is ready, it’s time to bring it to life! Use cardboard scraps to cut out shapes that match their drawing. They can glue or tape pieces together to create a 3D version of their floaty.
3. Decorate & Play
Add any extra decorations to make the floaty truly theirs. Then step back and admire their unique creation!
4. Add a story
Once their masterpiece is complete, ask them to describe it. Where does the floaty go? What’s it called? Who rides it? This adds a storytelling element that deepens the creative experience (and often leads to even more drawings!).
